Since the early 1920’s, the St. John Ambulance Brigade of Ireland has been at the forefront of provision of first aid services at Croke Park, the third largest stadium in Europe with a capacity of 82000 spectators. Over this time, our members have been involved in delivering many life-saving treatments.
Today, the Brigade’s front-line services are delivered in partnership with a team of doctors and Health Service Executive paramedics. Our distinctive black and white uniform is familiar to many of the patrons of the stadium. We operate five first aid posts and our members patrol every level of the stadium, including Premium. Every year, almost 5000 people in Ireland die from cardiac arrest; the survival rate is only about 9%. A victim's chance of survival slips away by 7% to 10% each minute before Cardio-pulmonory Resuscitation (CPR) is started, so it is critically important that family members, work colleagues or bystanders, no matter their age, know how to perform CPR while they wait for further help to arrive.
The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council has launched a campaign to make the public more aware of the importance of CPR, increase the amount of bystander intervention, encourage people to take CPR courses, and, most importantly, help bystanders save lives. Read More about Citizen CPR... |

For our volunteers, the Pink Concert at the RDS will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of their contribution to the St. John Ambulance Brigade of Ireland this summer. The atmosphere of the crowd, the weather, and the performance made this a great night to be on duty. This event was held in association with Aiken Promotions. Our members operated a mobile treatment unit based at the Clock Tower, a first aid post next to the Grand Stand at Gate J and another at the opposite end of the venue. In total, four Brigade ambulances and a support vehicle were operational for the event. More about Pink Concert in the RDS... |

Over sixty volunteers of the St. John Ambulance Brigade of Ireland attended an induction tour of the Aviva Stadium on the 10th June, 2010. This event was held in preparation for the first major event at the stadium, and was intended to familiarise our volunteers with the layout and first aid facilities.
The St. John Ambulance Brigade has an excellent working relationship with the management and staff of the Aviva Stadium. We also have proud associations with both the IRFU and FAI. We have a long history of providing first aid at their events throughout the country, and our members volunteered in the old stadium on Lansdowne Road over many decades. The Cork City Division would like to congratulate all participants who competed in the Cork City Marathon of 2010. This event is a favourite duty among our volunteers due to the spirit of the competitors who brave 26.2 miles in Irish weather, and the enthusiasm of the crowd who line Patrick Street to welcome their heroes home.
We were delighted to work alongside members of the Civil Defence, Order of Malta, Irish Red Cross, West Cork Rapid Response, HSE Ambulance Service and the Gardai in providing first aid along the course and a field hospital near the end of the route. More on first aid at Cork City Marathon... |

An Irish international soccer player was left in a fight for his life after an accidental collision during a training match between an Ireland XI and the Irish amateurs recently. Thankfully, the player now continues his recovery at home after his release from hospital.
Volunteers from the St. John Ambulance Brigade of Ireland immediately attended the player on the pitch after the incident to render first aid, and under the direction of Ireland’s team doctor, removed the casualty to a waiting Brigade ambulance and transported him to the Mater Hospital, Dublin, where a life saving operation was performed. Annual Rededication Service to be held on the 27th of June, 2010
We are delighted to announce that the annual Rededication Service for the St. John Ambulance Brigade of Ireland will be held in the Chapel Royal of Dublin Castle on Sunday, the 27th of June, 2010 at 11AM. This year is particularly special as the Lord Mayor of Dublin, the Right Honourable Councillor Emer Costello, will join us as our guest of honour.
The Rededication Service is an annual event that has been taking place since our organisation began to provide first aid to the people of Ireland over 100 years ago. We use the event as a time to reflect on the sacrifice of past and present members, and to remember all of those who are no longer with us. |
